Farm Wife Devotions: Focus On Jesus!

FWD:

"And he said, Come. And Peter went down from the boat, and walked upon the water to come to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, Lord, save me." Matthew 14:29-30

Peter began to sink because he lost sight of the Lord and was distracted by the waves of his surroundings.

Like Peter, we too can transfer our focus to our surroundings, and lose sight of Jesus. We can allow what we think is important, chores, wheat prices, social events, family issues, seeding, calving and the list goes on, to overwhelm us. When we allow these daily "waves" to shift our focus away from Christ, we too will be pulled down like a cinder block into the "water". Our world becomes our focus and will feel like its falling apart. Depression, anger, frustration, hate, resentment, and that panicky feeling like we are drowning and there is no way out, can set in.

Have you taken your eyes off of Jesus, begun to focus on the waves and as a result begin to "sink"?

It is so easy to shift our focus to the challenges in front of us, but if we will just maintain our focus on Jesus and what really matters, those issues will fade away and be nothing more than a soft wind.

Instead of seeking out our own answers and losing sight of Jesus and the purpose He's given us, we need to maintain the path that leads to Him. When we do that and a wave attempts to knock us down, it won't affect our journey, because we find our strength in Him!

Lord, help me to become someone who seeks you in the storm, when life's waves begin to crash against me. Help me and my sisters in Christ and Agriculture continue to seek You and focus on the path You have set before us even when it becomes jagged and tough to navigate.
